White Widow 'paid £1,200' for fake South African passports and 'worked with second British suspect in plotting Nairobi massacre'

'White Widow' Samantha Lewthwaite paid £1,200 for three fake South African passports for herself and two of her children, a known fraudster has claimed.
Ehmed Chisty says he organised the documents for Lewthwaite, which she is suspected of using to set up home in Johannesburg.
Lewthwaite was named last week by Interpol as the world's most wanted women following the Nairobi mall massacre and it has now been claimed she may have worked with a second jihadist from Britain in plotting the attack.

The White House 'didn't spend much time over the past week planning for shutdown because they assumed it would be averted'

The White House never though the government would actually shut down and as a result West Wing officials hardly spent any time over the past week planning for it, an administration aide said.
It was only at the weekend after House Republicans decided to prolong their fight on health care and send a budget bill back to the Senate with a one-year delay in Obamacare, that the reality of the situation became apparent.
Congress has missed the deadline for averting the first partial government shutdown in 17 years at midnight on Monday.

The White House never though the government would actually shut down and as a result West Wing officials hardly spent any time over the past week planning for it, an administration aide said on Monday

As the clock struck midnight Monday, House Republicans were demanding that the Senate negotiate their demand for a one-year delay in making millions of people buy health insurance under President Barack Obama's 2010 health care law. Minutes before midnight, the White House ordered a shutdown.
The Democratic Senate on Monday twice rejected GOP demands to delay key portions of what has become to known as Obamacare as a condition for keeping the government open.
An estimated 800,000 federal workers faced furloughs though many were told work a half day Tuesday. Critical functions like air traffic control and military operations will continue. Social Security benefits will be paid. National parks and most federal offices will close.
Now that the shutdown has taken affect, they intend continue to project an image of a White House keeping up with the country’s business and not just the drama on Capitol Hill, reports Politico.
Speaker of the House John Boehner parried a Senate-passed temporary budget bill that wouldn't defund the Obamacare law, and is now angling for a one-year pause in the law's implementation
Speaker of the House John Boehner parried a Senate-passed temporary budget bill that wouldn't defund the Obamacare law, and is now angling for a one-year pause in the law's implementation instead as a halfway measure
As much of the federal government grinds to a halt, President Barack Obama is telling the U.S. military he'll push Congress to re-open the government as soon as possible.
In his sole response early Tuesday to Congress' failure to avert the first shutdown in nearly two decades, Obama addressed his comments in a video to American troops, rather than the lawmakers he's been scolding for weeks.

Man United are out to build a dynasty but there’s Real proof chaos is just as good

A strange thing, stability. Every club in football seems to strive for it, yet the benefits are unproven.
Arsenal may sit top of the league after six games with Arsene Wenger in charge but the club have won nothing since the FA Cup final in 2005. In that time, Chelsea have had nine managers, including a caretaker and an interim, and have won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the League Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League.
It might be argued that they would have won more had they stuck longer with Jose Mourinho the first time, or Carlo Ancelotti. But nobody knows.

Chisora to defend European heavyweight title on November 30 (and will be ringside for Klitschko's superfight with Povetkin)

Dereck Chisora is to defend his European heavyweight title on November 30 at The Copper Box Arena.
The Finchley-based fighter won the title at the same venue in the fifth round of a one-sided affair with Edmund Berber on September 21, over 21 months after many observers felt he had done so despite dropping a controversial split decision away to Finland's Robert Helenious in December 2011.
Chisora, who will be ringside for Wladimir Klitschko's WBO, IBF and WBA heavyweight title defence against Alexander Povetkin on Saturday in Moscow, said: 'This is the new Del Boy and this time I’m on the road to win the world heavyweight title.

Death toll rises to 78 in Yobe student attack

The death toll at the College of Agriculure, Gujba ,Yobe State has risen to 78. At least 50 of them were students who were attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning as they slept in their hostel. Some were shot, others were butchered with swords and knives. The gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram sect members later moved to houses around the hostel, killing residents they find. Then they blocked the Damaturu-Maiduguri road and killed travellers. So far, 78 bodies have been counted, with many more people still unaccounted for. A student of the college who survived the massacre explained what happened...
"They started gathering students into groups outside, then they opened fire and killed one group and then moved onto the next group and killed them. It was so terrible. They came with guns around 1a.m. and went directly to the male hostel and opened fire on them. The college is in the bush, so the other students were running around helplessly as guns went off and some of them were shot down.”
The gunmen stormed the hostels in two double-cabin pickup all-terrain vehicles and on motorcycles, and were dressed in military camouflage. They attacked 4 male hostels but avoided the only hostel reserved for girls. Swords and knives were used to kill at least 30 male students. Some corpses that were found were without heads while others had heads hanging to the bodies. Wailing parents and relatives were at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital mortuary in Damaturu this morning to identify their loved ones. This can't continue. This government has to do something about the situation.

From Home Counties prom queen to world's most wanted woman: How the 'White Widow' was obsessed with Islam even as a schoolgirl

Samantha Lewthwaite at the end-of-year ball at her school in Aylesbury
Samantha Lewthwaite at the end-of-year ball at her school in Aylesbury
Samantha Lewthwaite was attending the end-of-year ball at her school in Aylesbury.
She dazzled, by all accounts, in a pink silk ballgown set off by a diamante tiara and matching gold earrings and necklace. ‘She looked fantastic that night,’ recalled one admirer.
The date was 2001. It was possibly the last time she received such a compliment. Shortly afterwards, at the age of 17, she converted to Islam and began wearing a jilbab, the long flowing robe that covers everything but the hands and face.
This is the story of what happened to her; how, in the space of little more than a decade, the glamorous young lady you see in the photograph became the world’s most wanted female terrorist, a chain of events that culminated in the Nairobi massacre where more than 60 civilians lost their lives.
We still do not know if Lewthwaite, 29, was the ‘white woman’ survivors say they saw with an AK-47 in one hand and a grenade in the other, or if she is among the dead hostage-takers.
British security officials have yet to receive confirmation from the Kenyan authorities of her role in the attack.
This week, Interpol issued an international arrest warrant, flagged with a high-priority ‘Red Notice’, for her in connection with a string of other terrorist outrages over the past two years across the Horn of Africa, where she is known as the ‘white sister’ or the ‘White Widow’.
What is indisputable is that she has blood on her hands. Lewthwaite, who was married to one of the 7/7 bombers, has already been identified as a main recruiter for Al Qaeda in East Africa and is an official spokesman for Al Shabaab, the terror group behind the Nairobi atrocity.
In the wake of 7/7, when her husband Jermaine Lindsay blew himself up along with 26 passengers on a Tube train near King’s Cross Station in London in 2005, she portrayed herself as another victim of the tragedy. ‘Abhorrent,’ she called it.
She had no knowledge, she said, of his murderous plans, and dreaded the day she would have to tell her own children ‘what their father did’.
How cynically empty these protestations of innocence seem now. For our inquiries in her home town of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire over the past week suggest the marriage of Samantha and Jermaine three years earlier was a union of two already poisoned minds.

Later, in the wake of 7/7, she even tried to radicalise her own family.
According to neighbours, her mother, from Irish Catholic stock, has been seen wearing a hijab — an Islamic scarf covering the head.
Yet, Samantha Lewthwaite’s upbringing, at least to begin with, could not have been a less likely breeding ground for anti-Western extremism.
She was born in 1983, the youngest of three children, in Banbridge, County Down. It says on her birth certificate that her father was a lorry driver.
He is also a former soldier, who served in Northern Ireland during the Seventies at the height of the Troubles. His regiment, the 9/12 Royal Lancers, was stationed in Omagh, close to the scene where the Real IRA slaughtered 29 people in 1998.
Lewthwaite, who came form second generation Irish-Catholic stock, married and Jamaican-born carpet fitter Lindsay Jermain when she was just 18

Could there be a more chilling betrayal of the family’s proud military past (Samantha Lewthwaite’s paternal grandfather was also in the Armed Forces) than the revelations emerging from Kenya about the ‘White Widow’ and her hate-filled Al Shabaab associates?
The Lewthwaites moved from Northern Ireland to Buckinghamshire in the early Nineties.
Aylesbury has a small but thriving Muslim community; the house where the young Samantha grew up was just half a mile from the mosque.
When she was 11, her parents split up, an event that left her devastated. In the aftermath, it seems she was drawn to the strong family ethic of the Muslims who lived around her.
Childhood friends remembered how she spent a couple of summers when she was 11 and 12 ‘hanging around’ with a mixed group of Muslim and white youngsters in the town’s Alfred Rose Memorial Park.
It was here that she developed a crush on a Muslim boy, three or four years older than her. Her feelings were not reciprocated.
‘She lived in an area with a lot of Muslims. I think that really influenced her,’ said a friend who knew her throughout her teenage years at the nearby Grange secondary school and into adulthood.
These early experiences developed into an obsession with Islam, an obsession that was witnessed first hand by that friend, who was also white and had a Muslim boyfriend.
That young woman became pregnant by him when she was 17, and they had a second child four years later. Her boyfriend later served time in prison. The two are no longer together and she spoke to the Mail on condition of anonymity.
The friend revealed how she and Samantha Lewthwaite attended gatherings where Muslim preachers would warn them to ‘stay away from kufars’ (non-Muslims).
‘She was always much better than me at learning Arabic and reciting the surahs [chapters of the Koran],’ said the friend.

Devastating aftermath of bus bomb that killed 17 people carrying Pakistan government workers

The mangled remains of a bus block a Pakistan street after it was torn apart by a bomb today leaving 17 government workers dead and more than 40 injured.
Blood and body parts flew into the road when the device exploded at the back of the coach as it ferried government employees home in Peshawar city, to the north of the country.
The carnage was made worse by the fact that many of the victims were reportedly sitting on the roof of the bus as it travelled - a common practice in Pakistan.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the finger appears to point towards militants battling the government in the northwest of the country who often target troops, officials and symbols of the state.

Oprah Winfrey says she'll leave this earth as a 'never married' woman

Billionaire talk show legend and actress Oprah Winfrey 59, has been dating Stedman Graham, 62, since 1986. That's 27 years - longer than a lot of marriages. Oprah said in an interview recently that although she considered marriage after she attended Tina Turner's wedding in Switzerland in July, she's pretty sure she will leave the world as a woman who 'never got married'

When asked if she would leave earth as a “never-married” woman, Oprah made her feelings very clear. “Yes,” she told Access Hollywood. “Yeah, I think that’s my final answer.”
“I think that it’s interesting that you would ask it because I thought about it again at Tina Turner’s wedding. Because Tina was like, ‘Oprah, you need to do this. You need to do it.’ I was just thinking, ‘Well, OK, would things really be different?’ And no, I don’t think so. If you ever interviewed him (Stedman), he would tell you that had we married, we would not be together today, because he’s a traditional man and this is a very untraditional relationship.”
Oprah also explained that she couldn’t be a wife because the word holds responsibilities she doesn’t feel capable of handling.

Leader of the Abuja protesters, Yemi Adamolekun, said the N150bn annual budget of the federal legislators, consisting 109 senators and 360 representatives, 'was too much in the midst of the pervading abject poverty across the land.'

She suffered an embarassing wardrobe malfunction at Sunday's Emmy Awards when her Narciso Rodriguez dress gaped open to reveal rather too much cleavage, resulting in an accidental flash of nipple.
But in typical fashion, Tina Fey makes light of the 'nip slip' on a new promotional clip for her hosting stint on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
SNL cast member Kenan Thompson first tells viewers that 'there will be no more wardrobe malfunctions like at the Emmys,' and then turns to Tina saying 'Unless you want to do one?'
