Google block on child porn: At last! Internet giant axes links to vile sex-abuse websites in stunning victory for Mail campaign
Internet search results linked to child abuse are to be blocked across the world in a stunning U-turn by Google.
The world's biggest media firm has agreed to introduce changes which will prevent depraved images and videos from appearing for more than 100,000 different searches.
The company's chairman Eric Schmidt, writing in today's Daily Mail ahead of a Downing Street summit on internet pornography, says: 'We've listened.
'We've fine-tuned Google Search to prevent links to child sexual abuse material from appearing in our results.'
The restrictions, which have been designed to apply in English-speaking countries, will be expanded to cover the rest of the world and 158 other languages in the next six months.
Mr Schmidt also reveals that Google has developed breakthrough technology that will allow illegal videos to be 'tagged' so that all duplicate copies can be removed across the internet.
Microsoft, which operates search engines Bing and powers Yahoo, will confirm at the Downing Street talks that it is introducing similar restrictions. The dramatic developments follow the Daily Mail's concerted fight to force the industry to clean up the internet with its Block Online Porn campaign.
David Cameron, in an interview with this newspaper, said the move represented 'a really significant step forward' but was not enough – and threatened legislation if the firms refuse to do more.
'We learnt from cases like the murder of Tia Sharp and April Jones that people will often start accessing extreme material via a simple search in one of the mainstream search engines,' the Prime Minister said.
Mr Cameron said a list of terms had been drawn up by child protection experts which they judged were 'unambiguous'.
'If you used these you were looking for child abuse images online,' he added. 'I challenged the search companies to block these terms, to make sure that no illegal content or pathways to illegal content were returned.

Aviation Minister Stella and Her Stupid Excuse of ‘Act Of God’
When the Dana Airlines plane crashed in Lagos on Sunday, June 3, 2012,
the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah called a press
conference, broke down and wept. But when
the Associated Airlines aircraft plunged to earth on Thursday, October
3, 2013, she made a media appearance, this time defiant.
She waved the sad event that has so far claimed about 15 lives aside as “an act of God”, saying as minister, her job is to provide leadership and ensure that the right policies were in place for the aviation sector to run efficiently. She passed the buck on safety and industry regulation to:
She waved the sad event that has so far claimed about 15 lives aside as “an act of God”, saying as minister, her job is to provide leadership and ensure that the right policies were in place for the aviation sector to run efficiently. She passed the buck on safety and industry regulation to:
The heads of the agencies in the sector, such as the Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority, NCAA; Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN;
Nigerian Airspace Management Authority, NAMA and the rest. But if any of
them wins an international award she would count it as one of her
achievements in office, to be sure!
Her mood change owed to calls in some quarters for her to be replaced because under her watch, Nigeria recorded unprecedented number of air mishaps totaling seven in just two years, with nearly 200 precious lives lost. One of those who put their mouths in this matter was Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation. It was probably his intervention that put Madam Minister on warpath...
Honestly, I am an admirer of the physical impact that Stella Oduah has brought into the aviation sector in just a little over two years. The airport remodelling projects all over the country are modern marvels Nigerians have never seen in this generation. Never was there a time in recent history where government projects were embraced in such a wholesale manner and completed in such record quick time; a pace of achievement only often seen in private sector ventures.
In particular is the fact that two international airports at Owerri and Enugu were taken along and completed, a departure from the past when the South East was always studiously avoided in the establishment of ambitious, economy-stimulating federal projects. I am also enamoured of Oduah’s vision of our airports as areotropolises or commercially oriented mini-cities which we all see in advanced countries when we travel.

House Of Reps Raises Alarm Over $326m Paid To Tompolo
The House of Reps ad-hoc Committee investigating the Cabotage Vessel
Financing Fund, CVFF, has queried the management of the Nigerian
Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, over $326million it
paid to Global West Specialist Vessels Limited, a company purportedly
owned by ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.
The House Committee was set up to ascertain how much has accrued into the CVFF, including the interest, as well as how much the Fund disbursed and to whom it gave the money. It also demanded to know why such huge amount of payment was made to Tompolo's company secretly.
During the investigation, a member of the Committee, Dr Adejare Samuel Babatunde, raised an alarm at the amount of money paid to one single company, and demanded that a detailed bank statement of account of the CVFF be forwarded to the committee immediately.

ASUU Strike: More Than 100 Days After…
Tuesday last week marked exactly 100 days that the Academic Staff Union
of Universities (ASUU) began an indefinite strike that has shut down all
the public universities in our dear country, Nigeria.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no headway in the negotiations to resolve the crisis, going by the rhetoric of the zonal coordinator, Benin zone of ASUU, Dr. Ighalo Sunny. While noting that the union appreciates the interest shown by various stakeholders in the crisis, he said, rather ominously:
The President noted that he does not control the resources of the states and wondered why lecturers in state universities are also on strike over a matter that had to do with demands on the federal government.
While there may be no statistical measure of the cumulative damage done to the system in the course of the current ASUU strike that is now in its fourth month, it is evident that education, the bedrock of any society, has become a huge joke in our country. Incessant industrial actions have combined with inadequate attention to damage, almost beyond repairs, our institutions of higher learning.

“But that will not stop us from finding lasting solution to the decay in our education sector. So, even if it takes us another 10 years, we will remain at home until the right thing is done.”Instructively, the Federal Government believes it has already done enough to make ASUU call off its strike. In the course of his media chat on the eve of the country’s 53rd Independence anniversary two weeks ago, President Goodluck Jonathan indeed alleged that politics had crept into ASUU’s industrial action.

Reasons to be cheerful! Cheryl Cole can't stop smiling as she attends a business meeting after confirming split from Tre Holloway R
The end of her relationship with Tre
Holloway has only just been confirmed, but Cheryl Cole still had reason
to be cheerful on Thursday when she stepped out with a big grin on her
face.
Indeed, the 30-year-old singer was in a jubilant mood after arriving at the London offices of Modest Management – the same agency that represents boy-bands JLS and One Direction.
Cheryl appeared to be working a rather urban look for the visit courtesy of her grey bomber jacket and baseball cap, while loose fitting leather trousers gave a distinctive flourish to the on-trend outfit.
Smart black ankle boots loaned the look a vaguely formal twist as she made her way inside for a meeting at the end of a mixed week for the former X Factor judge.
A spokesperson for Cheryl confirmed to MailOnline on Tuesday that the 30-year-old singer has ended her relationship with backing dancer Tre after 14 months together.
The pair apparently cooled their romance in June and have since remained close friends.
Cheryl took to Twitter in the wake of her split news to thank her fans, aka her 'little soldiers' for their support.
She wrote: 'Sometimes I just sit here by myself wondering why you're all so kind and nice and caring towards me. It's gets overwhelming. #soldiers
'Thank you for everything I mean that from the [heart] I love you. You're amazing. (sic)'
